I was blessed to have a wonderful Grandmother, whom we called, “Gabby.” Born in 1899 she was a woman ahead of her times. She was educated, worked in publishing and law, married later in life (she married a younger man), and had her own money. Every Sunday after mass we gathered at her home for a beautiful home-cooked meal, I have such fond memories of those times. Gabby was the epitome of manners and etiquette. She sent a card and note for every occasion. She never missed an opportunity for well wishes. I just ran across one of her notes and thought it was the best piece of advice a girl could have.
It said,
“From 0-18 a girl needs good parents
From 18 – 30 a girl needs good looks
From 30 – 50 a girl needs a good personality
And from 50 on she needs CASH!”
